El Hobbit, Novela de J. R. R. Tolkien, fue publicado el 21 de septiembre de 1937. Iniciado entre los años 1930 y 1931, esta obra de corte infantil, fue la primera, que saliera a la luz pública, donde Tolkien exploraba el universo mitológico de la Tierra Media que luego se encargarían de definir El Señor de los Anillos y El Silmarillion, perfilándose algunos de los personajes que luego participarían de forma muy activa en El Señor de los Anillos.
